So, what does that mean? It means I haven't started a new story from scratch in EIGHT years. That only just occurred to me. Despite the fact that I've been writing, revising or editing the whole time from 1998 until now, I haven't been staring at a blank page in quite some time.
The upside is I've barricaded myself in a house in Wisconsin with no Internet and virtually no TV (the antenna only seems to get in ABC, so Lost is all I'll be watching). That lack of outside distraction should hopefully lead to productivity. Of course, I'm sitting in the Antioch Public Library right now using their free wireless Internet. But I am going to try to make this my only visit. We'll see.
Perhaps one short, daily trip to update my blog will be enough motivation. There better be progress to report!

Mr. W-
ReplyDeleteMy current Language Arts teacher gave us an assignment to write a story a couple weeks ago. Before we started writing she told us a story about Winston Churchhill (I think, I don't really remember who...) who was really rich and stuff, and wanted to start painting. So he bought a canvas and paint and stood out in his garden. He stared at the blank canvas for a long time until his wife and her friend walked by. The wife's friend inquired to the wife, "What is Winston doing?" The wife replied, "Painting." The wife's friend then walked up to the cavas and splatered paint all over it. "What are you doing?!" Winston said. "I am breaking the power of the blank," She replied.
I think the story was something like that... Well, our Language Arts teacher told us to just break the power of the blank and start writing. We could always go back and fix it later. Although I know you have already started writing your fourth novel now, I think this is a good piece of advice for future writing.
